Living on Campus

All rooms come equipped with:

• A bed, extra-long (80 inches) mattress, dresser, wardrobe, desk, and chair for each resident.
• Tile flooring and Venetian blinds on windows.
• Average room carpet size: 10’ x 12’. (Lincoln Hall carpet measurements vary; call the Residence Life Office if you are assigned there.)
• Standard windows: 63” long x 94” wide; Lincoln windows: 63” long x 36” wide.

Helpful tips:

• Bring linens, mattress covers, a laundry bag, wastebasket, study lamp, and clothes hangers.
• Coordinate with your roommate to avoid duplicates for items like rugs, curtains, microwaves, or mini-fridges.

Rider University does not assume financial responsibility for personal belongings or unintentional large-scale damages caused by residents, such as fires or sprinkler-related flooding. National Student Services, Inc. (NSSI)

NSSI provides comprehensive personal property coverage designed for college students. This plan offers protection against fire, water damage, theft, and other losses. • Microwave – ONE per room, no larger than 0.7 cubic ft./700 wattage (all residence halls have microwaves in common areas)

What NOT to Bring:

• Air conditioner of any kind – if a student requires an air conditioner for a medical condition, please get in touch with Services for Students with Disabilities
• Ceiling fans
• Headboards or footboards for beds
• Mattress extenders
• Wallpaper
• Alcohol/drug paraphernalia (including items for decorative purposes-- shot glasses, bottles, etc.)
• Candles, Incense, Himalayan Salt Lamps, Wax scent melters & plug-in air fresheners, String lights (plug-in and battery-operated lights are BOTH prohibited due to fire code)
• Coins for laundry – Rider laundry facilities are free
• Electric Heated Blankets, Space heaters
• Extension cords (plain brown & white extension cords are not permitted in the dorms. Please bring a power strip with a built-in surge protector)
• Multi-outlet adapter (box that plugs directly into the wall, gives multiple outlets in place of one or two)
• Lamps with multiple heads (Medusa lamps), Halogen lamps, lamps with bulbs over 75 watts
• Highly combustible or explosive materials are not permitted
• Hot plates, electric fry pans, heating coils, toaster ovens -- anything with an exposed heating surface
• Laundry detergent pods (liquid and powder detergent only)
• Pets (except fish in a 10-gallon or less tank)
• Weapons of any kind, including toy guns or water guns
• Weightlifting equipment – all students have free access to the gym in the Student Recreation Center
• Live trees

Please note, the University does not have storage facilities for trunks and suitcases, but many students find they make great coffee tables and clothing storage in their rooms.

Store Your Dorm offers moving and storage services for college students. Pack your items in boxes, leave them in your room, and Store Your Dorm will transport them to secure storage for the summer! Your belongings will be in your new dorm upon arrival. Reserve at storeyourdormllc.com.
