The College of Business Administration welcomed three new faculty members this semester when Dr. Michelle A. Amazeen and Dr. Darrell Bartholomew joined the Department of Marketing, Advertising and Legal Studies, and Dr. William Kline joined the Department of Management.
Bartholomew, an assistant professor of Marketing, teaches MKT-370: Internet Marketing and MKT-366: Marketing Research at Rider. His research is primarily in the areas of community consumption, rituals, Internet marketing, behavioral addictions and bilingual marketing, and has appeared in the Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Business Information Systems and Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing.
“I really liked the fact that it was a private school and that the faculty liked working here and had been here for a long time,” Bartholomew said about joining the Rider faculty.
This fall, Bartholomew assigned his students to create marketing plans for area franchises. “It gets them thinking about operational expenses and gives them realistic view of costs and competition,” he said.
Bartholomew holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University; a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a bachelor’s degree in Management from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University.
Amazeen, assistant professor of Advertising, holds a doctorate in Mass Media and Communication from Temple University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Advertising from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has more than 10 years of industry experience in marketing and advertising.
“After taking a look at Rider, I liked the fact that there was a low student-faculty ratio and that the overwhelming majority of faculty have a terminal degree,” she said. “I also liked the locality of Rider and its proximity to New York City and Philadelphia. It’s a good opportunity to offer students prospects in both of those markets.”
Amazeen’s research focuses on political advertising and has appeared in Social Semiotics, Journal of Business Ethics, We Are What We Sell: How Advertising Shapes American Life...and Always Has and Case Studies in Organizational Communication: Ethical Perspectives and Practices. As part of a semester-long project this fall, students in her class were assigned to develop an advertising campaign to motivate students to register and get out to the polls.
Kline received his Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the Fox School of Business at Temple University, a M.B.A. from Saint Joseph’s University, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Kutztown University. He is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society, the CFA Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the Academy of Management. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2006.
Prior to returning to academia, Kline was a manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he completed valuations for mergers and acquisitions, business planning, as well as tax and financial reporting. Kline also spent time consulting at CBIZ Valuation Group, Inc. and Curtis Financial Group, a regional investment bank. His research has appeared in the Academy of Management Perspectives, the Journal of Financial Services Professionals and the International Journal of Management and Information Systems.
