Join us for a conversation with the fortieth Mayor of the City of Newark

Ras J. Baraka was sworn in as the fortieth Mayor of the City of Newark in 2014. This year, he completed a massive project that replaced the 18,720 lead service lines that deliver water to Newark’s homes and families within three years. It is an example of urban leadership and cooperation between governments that has no parallel in the entire national crisis of lead service lines. Yet as with his careful approach in leading his community through its vulnerabilities to the coronavirus epidemic, Baraka has managed Newark with his nose to the grindstone and without taking a victory lap. His record puts him at the very top of the list of future contenders for statewide office in New Jersey.
