Earn a full-tuition Capital Health scholarship to Rider University.

Every year, Capital Health awards up to four (4) full-tuition scholarships to eligible full-time Capital Health employees or their immediate family members. See below for scholarship program details, application instructions and maintenance requirements.

About the scholarship

  • Recipients must be new full-time, undergraduate, first-time freshman, current undergraduate students, or undergraduate transfer students starting in the Fall 2025 semester.
  • The scholarship is for four consecutive years or until completion of the students’ academic program, whichever happens sooner.
    • In certain cases, a scholarship may be awarded for fewer than 4 academic years (i.e. transfer students).
  • Rider applicants who are applying for the full-tuition scholarship must also submit a free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • No less than one scholarship will be awarded based exclusively on merit; other scholarships will take financial need and merit into consideration.
  • The Capital Health scholarship covers Rider University tuition but excludes room, board, textbooks, or other related costs. It will replace all other Rider-funded grants and scholarships awarded.
  • Continuing Education Program (CEP) students are only eligible if they are enrolled in full time, in person coursework at Rider.
  • You do not have to reside in New Jersey to be eligible for or apply for the scholarship or to Rider University.
  • Applicants who are not awarded the scholarship may still be eligible for a 50% tuition discount through the Capital Health Educational Benefit Program.

Employee requirements

Employment criteria for the employee applying or supporting the application of an immediate family member:

Employees applying for the scholarship or supporting the application of an immediate family member must be:

  • Full-time, non-union employee
  • Employed with Capital Health for at least one year as of November 15, 2023
  • Employees must also meet and maintain Capital Health's employment criteria during the duration of the scholarship.

Capital Health Senior Management members and physicians (including residents), along with their immediate family members, are not eligible for the full-tuition scholarship.

Former St. Francis employees who are now employed by Capital Health are eligible to apply or support the application of an immediate family member so long as the employee's combined service between the two organizations exceeds one year as of November 15, 2022. The employee must also meet and maintain Capital Health's employment criteria during the duration of the scholarship.

Should you no longer be eligible for the Capital Health Full Tuition Scholarship to Rider University, the awarding or restoration of other scholarships offered by Rider University is at Rider’s discretion.

Applicant requirements

  • Applicants must be employed by Capital Health, or must meet the definition of “immediate family member*” of a qualifying Capital Health employee. Verification will be required.
  • Applicants must meet and maintain the Rider student criteria during the duration of the scholarship (see Rules and Responsibilities of the Scholarship Awardee below for student criteria).
  • If the applicant is the Capital Health employee, they must meet and maintain the Rider student criteria and employment criteria during the duration of the scholarship.

How to apply

The Fall 2025 scholarship application deadline has passed.

To apply:

  1. Apply for undergraduate admission to Rider University as a first-year student or transfer student. Please note, the application process varies slightly depending on your intended student status.
  2. Submit a separate Capital Health scholarship application with an essay and activities resume.

Both applications must be submitted before the November 15th deadline. Capital Health has the right to view and utilize the information submitted in your application to the scholarship and in your application to Rider University. The Scholarship will take into consideration the information submitted in your application to Rider University. Students may be required to complete additional steps after submitting the initial application. Students are encouraged to submit a letter of recommendation in conjunction with their application to Rider University via the Common App or Rider’s website.

The application fee to Rider University is waived for all Capital Health employees and their immediate family members.

Recipient requirements

Rules and responsibilities of the scholarship awardee:

  • The scholarship is awarded for four consecutive years or until completion of the academic program, whichever happens sooner.
  • A recipient of the scholarship must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program and maintain the status of a full-time student at Rider University by Rider’s definition of a full-time student (minimum of 12 credits, but no more than 18 credits per academic semester).
    • The scholarship applies only to classes offered during the Fall and Spring semesters, but recipients can apply the 50% tuition discount to classes taken outside of those semesters (e.g. summer and winter classes).
  • These are full-tuition scholarships and do not include room, board, or other related costs, such as textbooks and other-non tuition fees.
  • A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher must be maintained by the scholarship recipient for the scholarship to continue. If the scholarship recipient's cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 for more than one semester, the scholarship may be subject to termination.
    • Capital Health has right to view and obtain the scholarship awardee’s grades at Rider.
    • Capital Health has right to contact the scholarship awardee’s parent/guardian about their enrollment status and academic status at Rider.
    • Capital Health has the right to share the academic status of the scholarship recipient’s grades with their parent/guardian if their grades do not meet the minimum requirements to continue to maintain the scholarship.
  • A recipient of the scholarship must always be considered a student in good standing by Rider University at all times during the course of their enrollment. Please refer to Rider University’s Student Code of Social Conduct for more information.
    • Capital Health has the right to receive and review information related to your student conduct record at Rider.
  • It is expected that a scholarship recipient will follow all applicable Rider University policies. Breach of Rider University policy, regardless of the disciplinary action taken by Rider, may result in termination of the scholarship.
  • If the employee is no longer employed by Capital Health, the scholarship will be terminated at the end of the academic semester during which the employment ended. Employment status will be verified at the beginning of each academic semester.
  • Verification will be required to show that a prospective awardee is a qualified dependent of a Capital Health employee.
  • If selected as a recipient of the scholarship, the student will be expected to commit to attending Rider University prior to the May 1 university deadline.
  • Any academic changes that would impact your scholarship status should be communicated to Capital Health in writing in advance of the change (ie dropping out of classes).
  • Capital Health has the right to terminate the scholarship to the awardee at any time.
  • The Rules and Requirements of the full tuition scholarship are subject to changes/updates at Capital Health’s discretion.

*For the purpose of the 50% tuition discount and full tuition scholarship, immediate family is defined as: "Immediate family members include children, whether by natural birth, adoption, guardianship, or other legal process under applicable New Jersey law, and spouses, domestic partners, and other individuals recognized by and granted similar status under applicable New Jersey law.”
